Forgotten Days

Forgotten are those childhood days spent playing in the sun-

Swimming in the lakes or playing hit and run-

Paddling in shallow streams and blocking the water flow

Hunting in the woods, whittling sticks to make our bows

Forgotten are those peaceful days we fished in the village pond-

Eating jam and cheese sandwiches, of which we were very fond

Baiting hooks with worms and casting towards the sky-

Quietly sitting on muddy banks and releasing hopefull sighs

Forgotten are those days when meeting friends along the way

Sharing tales of our adventures, deciding what to play

Scrump the odd ripe apple - even better a juicy pear

Then, falling from the tree and ending up in tears

Forgotten are those days when a fairground came to town

Ferris wheels, dodgems and music playing loud

Side stalls, coconuts, candyfloss and toffee apples-

Hoping to win a goldfish, with rods we poked and dabbled

Forgotten are those days dreading going back to school

Finishing off homework and drawing strings of molecules

The holidays had been and gone; memories soon had faded-

Along with the first day's lessons - due to tiredness and feeling jaded.
